About your local, rebel farmers.

Hi! We are the Townsends: former city folk who rebelled against industrial food production systems, starting our own first-generation regenerative homestead & small-scale farm (or "Farmstead") in Central Alberta, between Calgary and Red Deer, near the Rocky Mountains.

We have a passion for wellness & nature, having both gone through periods in our lives where we were predominantly plant-based (and even vegan & raw) because we believed it was better for the environment and for our health. After experiencing serious side effects from nutritional deficiencies, we evolved to an ancestral way of eating and started buying direct from local farms where we knew the animals were being raised ethically.

We were so inspired by the connections we were making and what we were learning about regenerative farming - moving beyond sustainable to actually heal and improve the land and it's people - that we wanted to go all in on this lifestyle for the benefit of our family now, and for the future generations to come after us.

Regenerative farmers like us aren't here to "feed the world" with cheap grains and fake meats. We are focused on nourishing our communities with plants and animals that grow easily on our land, with the least amount of inputs, using holistic & integrated management practices.

Our family has decided to specialize in ethically raising livestock that does well with silvopasture, since our property is mostly covered by an abundance of majestic trees.

Our Luing & Highland cows are grass-fed and finished, rotating through the woods & pasture in the summers and given local hay in the winters.

Our Kunekune, Berkshire, and Berkshire x Tamworth heritage pigs are also silvopasture-based, rotating through the woods & pasture to graze, root, and forage in the summers and given local hay in the winters. We supplement with local, certified organic grain mix from Coen Farm that is always no-corn, no-soy, non-GMO.

Our heritage chickens are well-protected from predators at night in a spacious coop, and allowed to free-range in the day time. They are often working together with the other livestock as part of our integrative practices, foraging and snacking on bugs. Our Kangal and Maremma livestock guardian dogs are working members of our farming team. They are training to protect the animals, but they also look after us and our young children. We provide them with top-quality dog food, raw meat, raw milk, raw eggs, and raw bones.

All of our animals (even the farm cats!) are part of our family; we raise them holistically without hormones, antibiotics, commercial dewormers, or chemical applications, such as Ivomec.
